I just can't figure out why no one likes Load or Re-Load...It's the same damn songs they played before with one or two different notes thrown in to make it sound different!!!! Really! At least a quarter of the songs from these two albums contain riffs not only found in old Metallica songs, but other bands as well! Don't believe me? Well hear for yourself!
THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT RIDE THE LIGHTNING by METALLICA by METALLICA from LOAD, 1996 from RIDE THE LIGHTNING, 1984It's the same notes played the first three times with a different tail.
PRINCE CHARMING THE FOUR HORSEMEN by METALLICA by METALLICA from RE-LOAD, 1997 from KILL 'EM ALL, 1983The first three chords are the same, just the last one is changed. BUT WAIT!!! This bears a striking resemblence to Motorhead's STONE DEAD FOREVER, a song that Metallica has even covered at one point! (This clip is from Metallica's version. If someone has the Motorhead version, please let me know!)
SLITHER ENTER SANDMAN by METALLICA by METALLICA from RE-LOAD, 1997 from METALLICA, 1991It's one thing to rip off songs from earlier in your career, it's probably a good bet that most of the Load audience didn't know there was a Metallica before the black album, but this is almost identical to the riff from their biggest hit. And it doesn't stop with just Metallica songs! Check out these tunes stolen from other bands!
FADE TO BLACK A NATIONAL ACROBAT by METALLICA by BLACK SABBATH from RIDE THE LIGHTNING, 1984 from SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, 1974Prehaps the start of it all, as it precedes Load by more than 10 years. This could have been passed off as a coincidence...UNTIL NOW! You see, Metallica has now covered this song. My friend Trasi and I were listening to Garage Inc. (such an original name) and while listening to Sabbra Cadabra/A National Acrobat, it hit her: "This sounds like Fade To Black!" Yes, it does. Hear it for yourself. Once again, thanks to Trasi for discovering this.
The suspicious thing is that James Hetfield cites Glenn Danzig as one of his biggest singing influences. STP, on the other hand, have a more mainstream sound, so Metallica could have been going for that as well.THORN WITHIN SEX TYPE THING by METALLICA by STONE TEMPLE PILOTS from LOAD, 1996 from CORE, 1992Hmm... they both kinda sound like SNAKES OF CHRIST by DANZIG from LUCIFUGE, 1990
BAD SEED RAIN WHEN I DIE by METALLICA by ALICE IN CHAINS from RE-LOAD, 1997 from DIRT, 1992What's ironic about this riff is that Metallica admitted that they tried out this tuning because their friends in AIC used it and they thought it sounded cool.
FIXXXER MAZE OF TORMENT by METALLICA by MORBID ANGEL from RE-LOAD, 1997 from ALTARS OF MADNESS, 1989Maybe they had this one "written" since the early days, since I'm sure that none of the members of Metallica listen to Morbid Angel now, except maybe Jason who doesn't ever get to use his ideas anyway.
